Rio de Janeiro has many programs for free! If you don’t want to spend, here are some suggestions of what to do for free in this city that is full of nature and sea!
LAGE PARK
Parque Lage is an icon of Rio de Janeiro. At the foot of Morro do Corcovado, Parque Lage enchants with its 52 hectares of pure green, cultural programs and art. In addition, the palace houses the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage, created in 1975 by the Department of Culture of the State Secretariat of Education of Rio de Janeiro, where several courses and exhibitions are held.
Inside the palace there is a cafe with a delicious breakfast. From the park there is also a trail that leads to Corcovado. But be careful, the trail is heavy and it is not for beginners.
The opening hours of Parque Lage has not changed and remains from 8 am to 5 pm. Parque Lage is located in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood, at the foot of Morro do Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro.
TRAILS
What else has to do in Rio de Janeiro are trails. Just put on a sneaker and take a water to be dazzled by the views from the top of the city! The trails we recommend are:
Morro da Urca, with its beautiful 220 meters high, has at its peak the first cable car terminal towards the Sugarloaf Mountain. Easy trail and the last cable car to get off is free!
Pedra Bonita is the easiest trail and has a stunning view of Pedra da Gavea, and the climb in a maximum of 20-30 minutes.Pedra do Telegrafo is the famous trail that has the stone that looks like you are falling, but it is just an illusion because it has a stone below it, it is in the West Zone, on the beach of Guaratiba.
Morro dos Dois Irmãos, which starts at the top of Morro do Vidigal. From Ipanema Beach Hostel, you can quickly reach the Vidigal community in Uber and from there take a motorcycle taxi to start the trail. If you are a beginner on trails, these are great trails to start and challenge yourself!
And finally, the most challenging trail of all, Pedra da Gávea is the largest rock by the sea in the world, with more than 800 meters of altitude. Go with a guide, which we can indicate for your greater security.
BEACHES, BIKE OR POND
What else has in Rio de Janeiro are beaches. You can relax and enjoy some beach in the South Zone, rent a bike, and pass the beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon, and stretch to Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas where you can see the sun set or the most famous of all, Pedra of Arpoador.
Or if you want, you can go to Joatinga, Barra da Tijuca Beach, Prainha, Grumari or Guaratiba Beach, in the West Zone of Rio, to see the other side of the city.
